Population and Communities

Caldwell County’s population is 81,990, according to the most recent U.S. Census. There are eight incorporated communities, ranked by population as follows: Lenoir (county seat), Sawmills, Granite Falls, Gamewell, Hudson, Cajah’s Mountain, Rhodhiss and Cedar Rock. Lenoir is the center of government and commerce, and home to approximately one out of four county residents.

Geography and Climate

Caldwell County encompasses 470 square miles, stretching from the rolling foothills in the southern end to the nearly 6,000 ft. Blue Ridge peaks in the north. Residents enjoy a pleasant four-season climate, with average temperatures of 76 degrees in July and 38 degrees in January. Average annual rainfall is 49 inches.
