While the other 99 counties in North Carolina posted a jump in their unemployment rates in November, Caldwell County was the lone county to show a jobless rate decline.

Caldwell’s rate fell 0.1 percentage point to 4.5 percent, according to data released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Labor and Economic Analysis Division. The rate is the lowest November figure since 2000 and represents a 0.5 percentage point drop from last year.

“We continue to document the growth and strength of Caldwell’s business and industry,” Caldwell County Economic Development Commission Executive Director Deborah Murray said. “Caldwell employers continue to create and fill new jobs, and new business and industry continue to locate here.”

Caldwell’s rate was tied for the 41st best out of the state’s 100 counties. The Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton metro region posted a 4.2 percent rate, tied for fourth best among the state’s 15 regions with Burlington and Charlotte.
