LENOIR — There’s more beef coming to Lenoir in the way of another restaurant.

Dodge City Steakhouse is rolling into Lenoir. It will be located in the former Sagebrush Steakhouse building located at 954 Blowing Rock Blvd.

William Hodge, owner, said he chose Lenoir as the location of Dodge City Steakhouse because of its small-town atmosphere. He aims to make the restaurant a community steakhouse by offering quality dining options at affordable prices.

All hands were on deck working in the restaurant on Wednesday, Feb. 23. As contractors were busy completing the renovations, Hodge, himself, was busy constructing a hardwood table with heavy metal finishes. Don Mack, director of operations, and Doug Sanderson, director of training/human resources, were interviewing potential employees.

Dodge City Steakhouse touts that its ownership and executives as actively engaged with the restaurants, ensuring quality service with a personal touch.

“It’s a western-themed steakhouse that is conscientious of quality food and service,” Hodge said, describing the restaurant’s atmosphere.

Hardwood floors run throughout the restaurant. Booths and tables are constructed with hardwood, with heavy metal basings. Light wood planks cover the upper section of the walls and a metal skirt adorns the lower section. Intermittent sections of charred wood planks that run horizontally along the ceiling and periodic raw stone finishes compliment the western theme.

Dodge City Restaurant hopes to establish relationships with customers that keep them coming back. The restaurant will feature a broad menu selection and will offer quality dining choices at a variety of price points.

“We want people to eat with us more than just once a week,” said Hodge.

Hodge has not faced any major obstacles in opening the restaurants, but there are always hurdles when renovating buildings.

“I think the biggest thing here was just the overall cosmetic condition of the building,” said Hodge.

He is experienced at overcoming challenges that come along with renovating restaurants. Hodge and wife, Stacey, own multiple restaurants throughout North Carolina, including Coach’s Neighborhood Grill in Hickory.

“Overall, I think that things turned out very well,” said Hodge, speaking about the renovations. “No major challenges that we’re not accustomed to in doing this. This is the 28th building that I’ve renovated.”

The administrative process of opening the restaurant in Lenoir has gone well, too.

“The community has been great,” said Hodge reflecting on the experience he has had in working with city officials.

Curious customers anticipating the opening have also shown support.

“The people that have stopped by asking us what we’re putting here, they’ve came in, and they’ve liked what we’ve done,” said Hodge. “They seem to be excited and wanting something new and are looking forward to the day when it does get finished.”

Although Hodge is in the middle of opening six restaurants at the same time, he anticipates being on schedule with the opening.

“We’re hoping to open by March 15, if everything goes right,” said Hodge.
