Everybody says they have good internet, but we mean it. We have a major data line along US 321 and a majority of Caldwell County has broadband access. Why? In 2009, Google constructed a data center complex in Caldwell County, investing $1.2 billion in the facility and establishing a long-term commitment to the region and state. Caldwell County has superior internet because of this expansion.
Google chose Lenoir, NC, for the facility because it has the right combination of energy infrastructure, developable land and available workforce. In fact, Apple, Microsoft and Facebook have facilities in Western Piedmont because of our energy and water assets.
Our exceptional internet is about to get even better. Blue Ridge Energy will use a state grant to expand the major data line along US 321 to give our county’s mountainous regions access to high-speed internet.
North Carolina leads the charge on renewable energy, according to a study by SmartAsset. We’ve increased our production of renewables by nearly 52 percent between 2014 and 2019, double the average of all 50 states. Site Selection names North Carolina the No. 1 State in Southeast for Sustainability. As the world’s topmost supplier of high-purity quartz, North Carolina is a leader in providing reliable, carbon-free power.
