National Manufacturing Week, which takes place from October 4th to 11th, is a time to celebrate the significant role that manufacturing plays in driving local economies, creating jobs, and fostering innovation. Caldwell County, where manufacturing has been a key driver of economic growth, sees Manufacturing Week as a vital opportunity to showcase the exciting career pathways available in the industry. This celebration shines a spotlight on local manufacturers and their economic contributions. It also aims to educate the next generation about the opportunities available in manufacturing careers. From high-tech roles in engineering to hands-on positions in production, the week aims to inspire students to explore the diverse array of jobs in this dynamic sector.

Caldwell County Economic Development is leading the organization of events to engage students, parents, and educators in the manufacturing industry. Two key initiatives will bring manufacturing to life for local youth and their families this year.

Classroom Presentations: Connecting Manufacturers with Students

Throughout October, in partnership with the Caldwell County School System, CCED will coordinate classroom presentations to bridge the gap between students and the world of manufacturing. Thirty-one local volunteers from the manufacturing industry will visit middle and high school classrooms to share their professional experiences and offer insight into the modern manufacturing landscape. These sessions will give students a firsthand look at working in a manufacturing facility, the skills needed to succeed, and the various career paths available. The volunteers will discuss their day-to-day work, the types of products their companies manufacture, and their impact on the economy. Students will hear personal stories of growth and professional success, making these careers feel more tangible and attainable. By connecting with experienced professionals, students will gain a deeper understanding of how they can shape their futures in manufacturing.

Family-Friendly Manufacturing Career Night: An Open House for Exploration

On Thursday, October 10, the community is invited to attend the Family-Friendly Manufacturing Career Night, hosted by Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (CCC&TI) at the Broyhill Center for Advanced Technology. This free event, sponsored by Exela Pharma Sciences, is designed to immerse young students and their families in manufacturing through hands-on exhibits, demonstrations, and conversations with industry professionals. The event will feature interactive displays that focus on the mechanical and engineering aspects of manufacturing, allowing students to see firsthand how various technologies are used in production. Representatives from local manufacturers will be available to discuss job opportunities and pathways, including the importance of post-secondary training and technical education. Students can also win door prizes, including Amazon and Walmart gift cards, making the event even more engaging for families. Thanks to Exela Pharma Sciences, dinner will be provided during the open house, making it a welcoming event for the whole family. The open house perfectly complements the classroom presentations, giving students and their parents/guardians a broader understanding of the real-world applications of manufacturing careers and the local resources available to help them pursue those careers.

Building a Skilled Manufacturing Workforce

Caldwell County's commitment to manufacturing is clear. By working closely with schools, community colleges, and local manufacturers, Caldwell County Economic Development aims to inspire and educate students about the possibilities that await them in the manufacturing industry. Through these events, students and families will learn about various career paths and the critical role manufacturing plays in the county's economic development.
